Teaches Hard Work

Don’t get us wrong, BJJ is a ton of fun…but it’s also hard work! We want our students to learn from a young age what it means to keep trying even when you get tired or can’t get the hang of a technique right away. There’s nothing more rewarding than setting a goal for yourself and finally accomplishing it! Whether it’s earning your orange belt, or learning a cool new technique, our team is here to get you there.

Building A Strong Foundation

At Zen Martial Arts, we understand that martial arts are a discipline that can’t be learned overnight. That’s why we place so much emphasis on establishing a strong foundation of skills and techniques in our youngest students. Our Baby Buddhas will begin by learning the proper stances and forms, and will then incorporate basic techniques. The earlier students get these skills drilled into their muscle memory, the better off they’ll be throughout the rest of their martial arts journey!

Provides Purpose

Having a purpose in life isn’t just important for adults – it matters for kids too! Children may beg to sit in front of the TV all day, but this just won’t make them happy. Having a source of motivation is the recipe for success in kids’ lives. An activity like BJJ gets kids active, improves their mood, and helps them feel accomplished. Not to mention, Jiu Jitsu improves students’ performance in all aspects of their lives. The values they learn in our school will push them to do better in school, practice better behavior at home, treat others with greater respect, and set goals for themselves.

Makes Life Better

At Zen Martial Arts, we’re not worried about winning awards or preparing your child for a black belt. Above all else, we care about our young students’ personal development and growth. We wouldn’t be teaching BJJ to children if we didn’t see firsthand the way it changes children’s lives for the better. Jiu Jitsu provides kids with a safe space where they can learn important life lessons, make healthy friendships, find mentorship in their instructors, and discover their passion for martial arts early in life.

Teaches Self-Defense

At Zen Martial Arts, our staff is made up of fellow parents and guardians who understand how important it is to keep our children safe. That’s why we’re passionate about sharing martial arts with as many kids as possible. At Zen Martial Arts, self-defense skills are instilled in our students from day one, no matter how young or old. By knowing basic self-defense tactics and understanding stranger danger, even the youngest children can protect themselves and develop important life skills. As students progress through our curriculum, they will acquire greater self-defense knowledge and advance in their ability to avoid dangerous situations and fight off potential attackers. The longer students stay in our program, the better off they will be.

Creates Community

From the moment a child steps into our building, they will be met with a supportive and inclusive environment of instructors and fellow students who want them to succeed. Because students regularly spar with each other in class, you may be surprised to learn just how strong the friendships in our BJJ classes are. Jiu Jitsu teaches kids the thrill of winning as well as the humility of losing, and we make sure our students respect each other throughout all the highs and lows of their training.
